The grant is provided through the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
  • American Dream Grant: This grant is also known as the American Down Payment Initiative. This government grant is aimed at taking off the down payment costs, initiated in the year 2003, it was authenticated by an enactment by the same name. The initiative was aimed at providing home buyers, with either 6% of purchase cost or with $10,000, whichever is higher.
  • Additional Home Grant Program: Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG) and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA), are some of the additional housing programs that provide grants to people upon the fulfillment of some requisite condition.
  • 203(b) Mortgage Insurance: Mortgage repayment is an important, issue for most new home buying. Such home buyers are granted a mortgage insurance policy by the HUDs, which helps and ensures the repayment of the loan.

Federal Grants

Federal Pell Grant - This need-based grant is awarded to low-income undergraduate students and some post-baccalaureate students. The grant can be used at most accredited postsecondary institutions and is awarded based on your FAFSA.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant - This federal grant is awarded to undergraduate students who have exceptional financial need. Students can get $100 to $4,000 each school year and eligibility is also determined with the FAFSA.

Academic Competitiveness Grant - This supplemental grant is awarded to first and second year students who demonstrate academic merit and were also awarded a Federal Pell Grant. Students can get $750 for their first year of study and another $1,300 for their second year.

National SMART Grant - The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant is a supplementary grant awarded to science, math, computer, technology and engineering students who are in their third or fourth year of study. This $4,000 grant is awarded to students who are eligible for Pell grants.
TEACH Grant - This $4,000 grant is awarded to undergraduate, post-baccalaureate and graduate students who promise to teach in an elementary or secondary school (public or private) that caters to low income students.

General Scholarships

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation - This foundation offers competitive scholarships to 7th grade students, undergraduates and graduate students who demonstrate high academic merit and financial need. Undergrads who are transferring from community colleges to 4-year institutions can be awarded up to $30,000 per year to finish their studies.

Imagine America Scholarships - This organization provides three different scholarships to students pursuing career-oriented education: 'Imagine America' for military personnel, high school students and adults enrolled in skills education programs.

AXA Achievement Scholarship - This scholarship program awards $670,000 in annual scholarships to high school seniors. Fifty-two winners (one from each state, one from the District of Columbia and one from Puerto Rico) receive $10,000 scholarships, and ten students receive an additional $15,000.
Unmet Need Scholarship - Awarded by Sallie Mae to families with a combined income of $30,000 or less, the Unmet Need Scholarship is designed for students who need at least $1,000 to add to their financial aid package. Unmet Need Scholarships are between $1,000 and $3,800.

USA Funds Access to Education Scholarship - Open to high school seniors, this scholarship program awards $1,500 scholarships to students with adjusted gross family incomes of $35,000 or less.
The Blogging Scholarship - This $10,000 scholarship is awarded annually to college students with unique and interesting blogs. Students must be enrolled in a full-time program.
Demographic Scholarships

Ron Brown Scholar Program - This merit scholarship is awarded to African-American high school seniors. At least ten eligible students receive $10,000 annually for four years.
The Jackie Robinson Foundation's Scholarship Program - This program awards scholarships of up to $7,500 annually to minority high school students. Scholarships are meant for four-year college students who can demonstrate financial need and leadership potential.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund - The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) offers for current college students, community college transfer students, and high school students who plan to enroll in a college or university the following year. All applicants must be of Hispanic/Latino descent.
Fisher House Foundation - This foundation offers $1,500 scholarships to the children of current, retired or deceased military service members. Applicants must be unmarried, under 23 and still qualify as dependents.
Jeanette Rankin Foundation - The Jeanette Rankin Foundation offers scholarships for low-income women over the age of 35 who are pursuing an associate's degree, vocational program or first bachelor's degree at an accredited institution.

Anne & Allegra Ford Scholarship - This program offers two $10,000 awards each year to graduating high school seniors with documented learning disabilities who plan to pursue undergraduate study.
Scholarships by Major

Scholastic Art and Writing Awards - One of the nation's longest-running programs, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards provide high school students with millions of dollars in scholarships. The awards are open to artists and writers in several different categories.
Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program - For more than 20 years, this program has awarded annual scholarships to college students intending to pursue an education in engineering, mathematics or science.

Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation - This federally-managed program awards scholarships to college juniors who are committed to careers in the government or nonprofit sectors. The funds can be used for both undergraduate and graduate study.
NcCPAp/AICPA Scholarships - Administered by the National Conference of CPA Practitioners, this scholarship program provides $1,000 merit awards to high school seniors who are interested in pursuing an accounting education.

American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) Scholarship Program - The ASNE program awards scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate engineering students. Undergraduates receive $3,000 scholarships and graduates receive $4,000 scholarships.
Tylenol Scholarships - Every year, Tylenol gives away hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of scholarships to students who are studying health professions.
Foundation for Information Technology Scholarships - The foundation sponsors several different scholarships for information technology students. Some are national scholarships; others are regional.
Overseas Press Club Foundation - This scholarship/internship program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students interested in becoming foreign correspondents. The OPC awards twelve $2,000 scholarships each year.
